The Lincolnshire Firewood Fair 2012

The Lincolnshire Firewood Fair.

The Lincolnshire Firewood Fair is an event that was started in 2009 to encourage people to burn firewood produced sustainably from local woodlands. We also aimed to provide the public with information about seasoning and types of firewood as well as having a variety of wood burning stoves and other equipment on show. The idea was a sort of one stop shop for buying firewood and wood burning equipment.

The event also aimed to show what firewood production equipment and forestry machinery was available to woodland owners as well as showcasing local businesses that provided various woodland management services.

We had no idea how successful the day would be, but with 1,500 people attending on the day and over 250 lots of firewood for sale in the auction it turned out to be a very busy day for all involved. Without the generous support of so many people this would not have been possible.

From the responses we got it was decided that the event should continue and  in 2010 we held the event at Scrivelsby Estate and the setting of parkland oaks and the Scrivelsby church gave the fair a back drop as impressive as Stourton Estate the previous year. Over 1,100 people attended the fair and auction with the many lots of firewood of different sizes and types selling well. In 2011 Revesby Estate kindly agreed to host the Lincolnshire Firewood Fair and we once again blessed with good weather, a great setting and lots of visitors. Revesby Estate have kindly agreed to host the event again this year and we are glad to accept and return to the same site as 2011.

The aim and content of the day remains the same and we will continue to have exhibitors looking at woodland management in a wider setting (from planting trees to cutting them down and using the timber) as well as more traditional woodland crafts.

We hope that people come along on the day to buy their firewood, ask questions about burning wood as a fuel (there will be a woodfuel advice point  in the main marquee), support local woodland management and have a good day out in the process. There will be lots of free advice available on the day, so if you want to know what stove you need, what firewood processor or chainsaw to buy or even what type of tree to plant to create a woodland of your own, then this is the day for you !
Dogs allowed on leads.

This years event is organised by a team of volunteers from various parts of the industry from woodland owners, woodland consultants, woodland managers, firewood merchants, forestry contractors, tree surgeons and of course Revesby Estate. To enable us to run the event again and to allow it to develop we need more people to volunteer. Could you spare time to help organise next years event? If so we would like to hear fom you.
